Simple Self Care Saturday #1

Welcome to Saturday! The weather is beautiful here in Florida today, and I hope wherever you are it is too. Now that I am no longer working every Saturday, nor doing 12-hour shifts, I am starting a new self-care series of posts. I totally believe in self-care that is simple, easy to do, affordable, easy to understand, and uncomplicated. Self-care is something you intentionally do for yourself. Keeping it simple will aid you with making self-care a habit. What is one type of self-care that I have made into a habit? Getting up and taking at least 250 steps every hour, while awake. Now that it is a habit I feel sad if I can’t do it. For example, this week I started my new job and it was all done on a computer, in an office. I could not get up and move every hour, or I guess I didn’t think to ask to do it, and I felt so lazy by the end of the day. Not all types of self-care will meet everyone’s definition of my time. For example, having my nails and hair done is not for me, but some people find it very relaxing and self-loving.

For this first simple self-care Saturday I would like to talk about Tai Chi. I am not a certified Tai Chi instructor, and I only dabble in it as a form of energy balance. I actually love Tai Chi and I like to incorporate it with my Reiki. I am trained in Reiki. Both are types of energy healing but Tai Chi is also more of a type of exercise or intentional movement. It can improve your balance, muscle strength, all while focusing on your breathing. The movements are very slow, so you focus on the movement and the breathing. The video below is 11 minutes long, but the Tai Chi session is only 5 minutes in length and it is perfect for a Simple Saturday, or any day of the week. I try to do this routine daily, but it is not yet a habit, so I often do it a few times a week. I find it is a great cool-down routine after exercise, or after a stressful day at work to relax. Once you learn her easy routine you won’t need the video, though you may want to play some soft music, or nature sounds once you have it memorized. Try it if you are in pain, anxious, worried, etc. Once you master this first video you may wish to try some more of her Tai Chi routines, or just stick with this simple one.

Leave me a comment if you try this. What is your favorite way to practice self-care? There are so many, but you need at least one, and then do it. self care Saturday: Resting when you are injured

Happy Saturday! This is not what I intended to talk about today, but because I have reinjured an old shoulder injury even typing is incredibly painful. So, short and sweet today. I am admittedly not good at slowing down, or taking it easy, especially when it is absolutely gorgeous outside and I have tons of things I would like to be doing, like gardening and such. I did manage to mow one tiny spot in the backyard, but my husband had to start the mower for me and I mowed with with one hand. I can still enjoy the weather just sitting still, lol. I can’t use the weed whacker or dig at all, or rake. I did get on the treadmill but I had to keep my right arm immobile because even walking it was pulling on my shoulder.

So, that is it. I am sitting still, resting my arm and relaxing. A nice change for me. If you have CKD like me, then you know how challenging it can be when you are in pain. There are not a lot of options for pain relief that are either effective or safe for the kidneys. I will do a self Reiki session before I go to sleep and that usually will help a lot to relax and sleep. Right now, rest, immobilization, Tylenol and heat are my choices. I don’t find ice comfortable.

Have a wonderful Saturday, and I hope your weather is as lovely as mine!

Freebie for Moms for Month of May

Happy Wednesday!  As promised I am announcing my May freebie early, so moms can start signing up.  For the month of May Moms can request one free 15 minute Distance Reiki session.  I am a level 2 Reiki practitioner.  Reiki is a form of Energy Healing.  I will not be starting the sessions until May 1st, but people can start signing up now and getting appointments made.  I will be limiting myself to doing 2 sessions a day, for a total of 60 sessions.  So, that is 60 Moms who can get in on this special offer.  Please follow the guidelines below.  If you do not you will not be able to get the freebie.  Obviously, the point of me doing a free item each month, is to get people introduced to me, and my products.  You will have to follow the steps to get it.

1-  Please be honest and be sure you are a mom.  It doesn’t matter if you are a stepmom, adopted mom, or biological mom, but you must be a mom.  Don’t worry dads will get a chance in June.

2-  You must use the form in this post to contact me and request your free Distance Reiki Session.  Make sure you mention that you want to sign up for the free session.  Within 48 hours I will contact you via email to arrange your session.  You must agree to my disclaimer, and supply a headshot of yourself for the session. This is a must.  It is how I was taught to do a distance session.   If you do not want to do either of those things then please don’t sign up.  I will also explain how to prepare for your session, and what Reiki is and is not.  I will delete all images after your session is over.

3-  By filling out the contact form you are agreeing to receive my weekly newsletter, via email.

4-  Moms can sign up through the end of May, or until I have 60 sessions booked and verified.  You can stay on a wait-list for when I offer the next one, but you can’t opt out of my newsletter to stay on the waitlist.

Wellness Wednesday: Reiki for Stress Relief or Anxiety

Stress and Anxiety are kind of similar, but different.  They can both be acute and quick, or chronic and long-lasting.  Chronic Stress and Chronic Anxiety can be debilitating and cause illness.  Learning to deal and cope with these issues is very beneficial.

Nursing is a very stressful job, especially bedside nursing.  If you are doing bedside nursing then you know what I am talking about.  But, any job can be stressful, as well as just everyday situations.  We all deal with stress, and anxiety in different ways, but some people deal with it by not dealing with it.  This can be incredibly unhealthy.

I am a level 2 Reiki Practitioner.  I offer 15 minute Distance Reiki sessions to help heal negative energy caused by Stress and Anxiety.  If you would like to purchase a session, you can visit my Etsy shopor use the contact form below to message me.  Anyone who purchases a Reiki session will have a meet and greet prior to their session.
